Kayak Building- Wiring the Hull

Woohoo! All the planks are assembled, and now it's time to start wiring the hull together, starting with plank 1port and 1starboard. We started the day by making a jig and then drilling holes every 6 inches on both sides of the planks, as well as beveling the edge of plank 4 (so the deck will fit on the hull). Also, sanded down the edges of the butt joints and the epoxy, so the new layer of epoxy will stick. We also cut a bunch of wire sutures (3.5" lengths of wire, about 2 million of them).
Then started wiring planks #1 together- the picture shows the two planks wired together, with the temporary frames in place. There are 4 total planks, each side, to complete the hull.
And note the pretty flowers under the work table. :) Those are now in my window boxes above the garage. Such a busy, productive weekend... I know, who am I... Where's the lazy Vern we all know and love...

  1. I particularly enjoy your use of highly technical terms such as "butt joints."
