Day 11 - the floors....

So today begin the floors. It was so nice and quiet for a few days with just the drywall mud going on.... Floors, not so quiet.

Daniel of European Hardwood Floors, was able to get some old fir to match our existing floors. He's weaving the new in with the old, so it'll look like a smooth transition. Some of the existing floor doesn't quite reach the wall... And won't be covered up by the standard baseboard trim. So we decided to add another level of trim - it's called shoe trim (similar to quarter round but more oblong), and that'll cover up the gaps. Otherwise, it would have added a lot more cost to have to replank those areas as well. As it is, only 1 plank had to be extended, instead of like 20.

Also, the tile guy came out this morning. Once the wood floor is ripped out of the bathroom, he'll look at the subfoor. If all is well, he'll add the cement board and then tile away! He'll come back tomorrow to do that.

Chris sent us an updated schedule, the target end date is August 6! Also gave us some #s for the extras we had (attic door, additional framing, additional drywall, etc). Ahh, project cost overruns... But it's all worth it. And Chris is really reasonable in all this, so overall we're still getting a good deal.

Oh! The best news? Talking to Daniel - he says that the fumes from the swedish finish rise upward, and we shouldn't be affected at all in the basement. Likely not even the main floor.  So that means we don't have to take the cats to boarding for the weekend!! YAY!! That saves us about $250. And we might not have to inconvenience our friends by crashing at their house... That's still undecided, though. We'll see how bad (if at all) the finish fumes are.

Anyway, it's 6:15 and the flooring guys are still here! They have been working a LONG day. However, I never got a chance to head out to the store to get some stuff for dinner... And Mark's in a meeting until 6:30... It's another late meal for us... Is it sad that we're getting so old that if we eat at like 8pm it's too late?
