Day 5

So the insulation guys were here until 9pm. And even the general contractor was surprised at how little they had done in the 12 hours they were here... Dudes kept taking LONG breaks and talking on their cell phone all the time. And it's not even done! Chris called Chad (the insul owner) and he had no idea there were any issues. So supposedly today they will come back out and finish what they needed to.

This morning started EARLY. Like 7am we got the knock on the door. Though apparently the guy was here at 6am, but waited to knock until 7 (and thank you to him). We were told things would start at 7:30... But everyone showed up this morning. It was like a zoo! The framer needed to finish up before the drywall guys could do their thing. The drywall delivery dudes, the a/c dudes, the drywall installer and the electrician.

The drywall delivery guys complained about the angle of the stairs and getting it up there... But whatevs. It fit through the openings available, it just wasn't easy. Anyway, they finished within an hour. The drywall installers started on the finished room (the one that was done framing) while Lance (the framer, who is awesome) finished up everything in the small room.

The a/c unit unfortunately can't be placed under the deck (1 ft shy of enough clearance), so it's going out in the yard... I'll have to figure out some creative landscaping to hide it. But having a/c is well worth it! We should be able to have a cool house TONIGHT! The a/c/heating guys are great - really know their stuff. Chris has so far used really great subs (except for the sub-subs for the insulation; the sub/owner dude, Chad, seems good, but the monkeys he sent yesterday were frustrating). They can use the existing thermostat location (yay! there was concern that they'd have to rewire or move it if they can't rewire, but it seems that the current setup has enough wires to accommodate the a/c unit control), and we're just getting a fancy touchscreen one. They'll also put some blocks in the ducting to get more air upstairs (not full blocks, but just so the air will be forced upstairs, too, and not just stay downstairs).

The electrician had to come out again because when he was here the first time, something happened and the dining room light popped and stopped working when we turned it on. So he had to fix that and get it working again. He was here about 2 hours figuring it out, but it's all fixed now! Lighting, check.

So now there's the a/c guys and the drywall installers here. Everyone else has left. I got a peek of the one room already drywalled and it looks great! I'll post pics of that tomorrow.

Tomorrow will also start early - drywall mud and taping. And that'll be through the weekend, too. It's apparently a 5-day process to drywall. But then I'll paint the primer, ceilings, and 1 coat on the walls. Then the flooring will start... I'll talk about that in a later post.

This is it for now... I'm out.

Again, more pics still on flickr.
