Work in Progress

Ahh, the sounds of hammering & drilling.... Not very soothing, I'll tell you that much. It sounds like the house is about to fall apart. So let's hope it doesn't. 'Cause that would really suck. A lot.

The first issue of the day - getting bird-blocking done. It's basically adding holes to the outside underside of the roof (the overhangy part) so there's air intake through the attic to go out the vents up top. Right now there's no intake, so that's why it's uber hot in there.

Anyway, so the dudes come (2 guys from the insulation co - one will do the insulation, the other the birdblocking). First off, they're asking me what they should do. ?? I don't know exactly... I thought they were supposed to communicate with their boss and the general contractor. Anyway, I get that straightened out. Then I hear the guy outside cursing a lot at the birdblocking. Apparently the angles are a bit annoying and it's taking him a long time to drill the holes. So I overhear his conversation with the other dude and they're saying they will just go get predrilled 2x4's at Home Depot and replace the ones on the house. They start planning this, without telling me or Chris... Thankfully I overheard, so I'm frantically texting Chris (the contractor) and asking if that's ok... So Chris calls and says they will be drilling. Then the dude comes and talks to me saying it's a p.i.t.a. to drill and if they can do the predrilled thing. I'm like, I defer to Chris... Plus, I have no idea of the structural implications, and secondly, we don't have any matching exterior paint and it'd look really stupid having the house have all these bare 2x4's. So anyway, this made dude really grumpy. He's like, "I'll spend all day and probably tomorrow drilling." I respond, well, I want it done right... So we'll see.

Now I overhear him say "no bueno" to his buddy.... I'm slightly worried right now. I mean, I know they'll make it right eventually, but I don't want to deal with the hassle of yelling at people. Oh well, I guess no project can go off without a hitch...

The a/c guy comes this afternoon, too. The potential issue there is using our existing thermostat or if they have to punch a hole somewhere else to route it.

Stay tuned..........
